Swimming Pool Shape Modification

Swimming Pool Renovation: Transforming a 1970s Outdoor Pool

This swimming pool was originally built as an outdoor pool in the 1970s.

One of the original owners extended the house and constructed an enclosed room around the pool, effectively integrating it into the home so that it could be enjoyed year-round.

When the property was sold, the new homeowners decided it was time to renovate both the house and the swimming pool.

The primary challenges were the limited walking space around the pool and an outdated design that desperately needed revamping.

We visited the property to provide a detailed quote and guide the owner through the decision-making and planning process.

We modified the pool’s shape to create extra walking space and to modernize the design, aligning it with current pool remodeling trends.

As shown in the accompanying photo gallery, extensive work went into transforming this swimming pool.

New reinforcement (reo) bars were installed into the pool shell by breaking into the original concrete to access the existing rebar.

The new bars were then anchored to the existing steel structure, ensuring enhanced strength and preventing any separation between the new and old concrete.

Once the reinforcement was complete, formwork was erected, and fresh concrete was poured and vibrated to eliminate air pockets and achieve optimal compaction.

Despite these comprehensive modifications, key elements of the original pool were retained.

The original skimmer box and its location remained unchanged, as did the main drain on the pool floor.

However, the pool light locations were adjusted to suit the new pool shape, and the overall depth of the swimming pool was maintained.

This swimming pool renovation not only improved functionality with increased walking space but also brought a much-needed modern aesthetic to an outdated design—making it a standout example of successful pool remodeling and modern pool design.
